| Carl Dann founded the Dubsdread golf course which has been open since 1924. |
| The name Dubsdread originates from the era’s slang expression for the poor golfers, or “Dubbers.” The “dread” refers to the difficulty of the original course layout. |
| Carl Dann was born into a poor family in 1885. A man who never passed fourth grade, Carl used his natural born business sense and charismatic personality to make up for his lack of education. At the time Carl built the Dubsdread Golf Course, it was miles away from everything. He was told that it would be destined for failure. |
| During World War II, Dubsdread gained popularity significantly. With over 100,000 serviceman stationed in Orlando, Dubsdread became the unofficial Officer’s Club. This popularity continued long after the war was over. |
